(BOZEMAN) Steven Vaughn Jenkins of Bozeman, accused of sexually assaulting a teen at a Bozeman thrift store, was seen in Gallatin County Justice Court on Friday morning.
Jenkins, 59 years old, made his initial court appearance after being arrested and charged with sexual assault.
Jenkins was arrested on Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl at a Bozeman Goodwill Store on November 21, 2018.
Jenkins is being held on $50,000 bond and is restricted from going into Goodwill stores in Bozeman.
According to charging documents, on Nov. 21, 2018, a Bozeman Police detective took a report of two juvenile girls being touched in a sexual manner at the Bozeman Goodwill store. The girls told the detective they were with their mother at approximately 4 p.m. when a man reportedly touched one of them on the buttocks as he walked by. The man then touched her two more times, one near the inner thigh area of her body.
Security footage of the incident was reviewed and the detective observed a man consistent with the girls’ description was seen touching the victims. The man was identified as a “regular” at the business by staff.
A press release asking the public to help identify the man in the security footage was released and on December 28, numerous tips identifying Jenkins as the suspect were received by law enforcement. When contacted, Jenkins reportedly didn’t recall touching any female while visiting the business, but if he had it was “incidental” contact.
On January 3, a juvenile female temporary staff member at the business also told law enforcement she had been sexually assaulted by Jenkins, when he allegedly touched her buttocks three times on December 28. Review of the security footage from that date reportedly showed Jenkins frequently walking past and in the immediate vicinity of the victim.
Jenkins next hearing is set for January 25th.
