Brandi Nicole Young has been charged with obstructing justice after she allegedly lied to police officers about knowing where James Joseph Sangrey, Jr. was several days ago.
The U.S. Marshals Service issued an alert on Tuesday to advise people to be on the look-out for Sangrey, stating that he is wanted on $600,000 in warrants for bail-jumping, violation of bail conditions, and failing to abide by terms of conditional release. He has been involved in several criminal incidents in Great Falls in recent months. According to the alert, Sangrey is armed and dangerous, and anyone who sees him should not approach, but is asked to call 911, or the US Marshals Service at 406-453-7597. Young is facing one felony charge of obstructing justice.
Court documents state that a police officer contacted Young numerous times recently to determine Sangrey’s location. Officers told her that he was wanted for several warrants, and she said that she understood. She told police that she did not know where he was and had not talked with him. The officers told her that if she had any contact with Sangrey or assisted him in any way, she could be charged for obstructing justice; Young said that she understood, and said she would contact police if she had any contact with him.
Officers learned on Saturday, September 22nd, that Sangrey had been seen at the Buffalo Nickel casino. When they reviewed surveillance video, they saw Young and Sangrey enter the casino and beging gambling at machines next to each other.
Court documents state that Sangrey then went into the bathroom, and Young left the casino.
The charging documents state:
Ms. Young was looking around when she walked outside to see if anyone was around. She then got into a red Chevrolet Cruze and a short time later Mr. Sangrey exited the casino from a different door with the hood of his sweatshirt up in an attempt to avoid being recognized. Mr. Sangrey got into the red passenger car that Ms. Young was driving.
Ms. Young was not driving her silver Pontiac Grand Am and was driving a red Chevrolet Cruz which she does not own. It appeared that by using a different vehicle, Ms. Young was trying to avoid detection by other officers who knew her vehicle and knew she associated with Mr. Sangrey. Ms. Young exited the parking lot with Mr. Sangrey as the passenger.
After reviewing the surveillance video, officer went to a residence on 2nd Avenue South talk with Young. When questioned, she denied being with Sangrey.
Young was then arrested, and according to the court documents, “immediately changed her story” and admitted to being with Sangrey, and said she had driven a relative’s vehicle to pick up Sangrey and drop him off.
Prosecutors requested that bond for Young be set at $5,000.
