GREAT FALLS — There were 134 new cases added to the total on the Montana Response COVID-19 tracking map on Friday morning, and two new deaths reported. Yellowstone County added the most new cases with 52, followed by Flathead County with 12 and Missoula County with 10. Rosebud County also added 10 new cases, and Big Horn county reported 7 new cases.

The data below is from the official Montana website on August 28:

  • TOTAL CASES & RECOVERIES: Montana now reports 7,063 cumulative cases statewide, with 5,172 people recovered.
  • HOSPITALIZATIONS: There are 121 patients hospitalized, an increase of two from yesterday, and a total of 417 hospitalizations since the pandemic began.
  • ACTIVE CASES: The state reports there are currently 1,791 active COVID-19 cases in Montana, an increase of 16 since yesterday's report.
  • DEATHS: The cumulative number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Montana is 100; two new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
  • TESTING: The number of tests increased by 2,216 over the previous 24-hour reporting period, for a new cumulative state-wide total of 242,875.

Numbers reported by the state each day occasionally differ from those reported by county public health departments due to periodic lag times in reporting data to the state. We encourage people to check the official website and/or Facebook page of their respective county health department for any updates that are not yet included in the state's daily updates.

Governor Steve Bullock released the following message: “We have reached a somber statistic in Montana: 100 deaths due to COVID-19. But the people we have lost are not statistics. These men and women were beloved family members and cherished friends. And their loss will continue to reverberate throughout their families and communities – for so many Montanans, this virus has taken away Christmas dinner at Grandma’s, family history and cultural knowledge, or a best friend."

The four counties in the KRTV viewing area with the most (cumulative) cases are Cascade, Lewis & Clark, Glacier, and Phillips.

  • CASCADE COUNTY: There have been 265 confirmed cases in Cascade County. Of those, 161 have recovered, 99 are currently active, and five have died.
