We’re tracking severe weather again Thursday afternoon.
The storm prediction center has placed most of Central and Northeastern Montana under an enhanced risk for severe storms.
This is an unusually high risk level for our area.
A surge of gulf moisture into the area means lots of energy will be available to fuel storms.
In response to the severe weather threat a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Central and North-Central Montana until 8 pm.
High winds up to 80 miles per hour, hail up to baseball size, and even an isolated tornado will be possible.
Storms are initiating in West and Southwest Montana, and track to the northeast, much like Wednesday.
In the mid afternoon to early evening hours, supercell thunderstorms will favor large hail and bring a small chance for tornadoes.
As we head further into the evening, likely past 6 pm, models suggest storms will organize into a line, and high winds will become the main threat.
Additionally, locally heavy rain will be possible with these, storms and a Flash Flood Watch will go in effect 6PM Thursday for parts of Northeast Montana.
Given the high potential for severe weather, it’s critical you stay up to date on the weather, and be prepared to get to safe shelter in the event of a severe storm.
