UPDATE: A spokesperson for Northwestern Energy says around 700 of the impacted customers have had power restored. Crews are working to restore remaining power to 512 customers still affected.

HELENA – NorthWestern Energy crews are working to restore power for more than 1,200 people after an outage was reported early Monday morning in the Helena Valley.

Officials with Lewis and Clark County report Northwestern Energy will close Montana Avenue between Sierra Road and Shirley Road to facilitate repairs.

Drivers are advised to use alternative routes.

Meanwhile, the power outage forced school district leaders to cancel classes at Rossiter Elementary school in the valley.

The Rossiter portion of bus routes 05, 12, 14, 22, 26 and 27 are affected by the closure.

All other bus routes will run as expected, however district leaders said students and parents should expect delays due to road and traffic conditions.

According to Northwestern’s Electric Outage map, power should be restored to the valley around 9:30 a.m.
