The Great Falls Public Schools Board of Trustees has come to a decision for the next superintendent position and has extended an offer.
A 2-year contract has been offered to Tom Moore.
Thursday night’s public meeting was the second time the board interviewed Moore, who is the current GFPS 7-12 Assistant Superintendent.
He has been in the school district now for 12 years and has 30 years of administrative experience at all levels.
Over the span of one hour at the meeting, Moore was asked 10 questions that all differed from the first interview.
Moore expressed his thoughts on the process, “I’m pleased that the board took the time necessary to determine that I was the right candidate. I’m happy about their decision tonight, I know that they debated and there was a lot of consternation.”
After the interview, the floor was open to public comment.
Over 10 colleagues or members of the community volunteered to give comment, all of them in favor of Moore becoming the next superintendent.
He will replace current Superintendent Tammy Lacey, who is retiring after 6 years on the job.
Moore said, “They asked me last week what my first one hundred days were going to look like, those don’t start in July when Tammy transitions out and I transition in, those are going to start tomorrow morning with our cabinet, with our team here as we begin that transition.”
The contract will be effective starting on July 1st.
Although, Moore’s contract is for 2 years, the board passed a motion that after those two year an attorney from the Montana School Board Association will be authorized to negotiate the contract terms.
Moore added that he will have an open-door policy, for those people who have concerns to come talk directly to him.
