A man who was hauling a trailer with a lemur, wallaby, tortoise, parrot and other animals was arrested on a DUI charge on Interstate 4 on Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said that they began receiving reports of a pickup truck hauling a trailer driving erratically on State Road 417 near mile marker 45 at about 6:10 p.m. Three separate drivers also said the truck hit their vehicles without stopping, according to the report.

A trooper conducting routine traffic enforcement saw a truck that matched the description provided by witnesses on westbound I-4 near mile marker 98. The truck was driving erratically and was causing sparks and debris to fly on the roadway because the trailer was missing two right tires, which caused the rims to drag on the roadway, the report said.

A traffic stop was conducted and the trooper immediately noticed that the driver, 27-year-old Shane Taylor, was slurring his speech, had bloodshot eyes and appeared to be disoriented, according to FHP.

Troopers said there were several animals in the pickup truck and in the trailer including a ring-tailed lemur, an agile wallaby, a tortoise, a parrot, a goat and a sheep.

Because none of the animals were properly secured, the lemur got out and nearly ran onto I-4 before officers were able to corral it and the sheep was bleeding from several cuts, according to the report.
