Before gathering for a Thanksgiving meal with loved ones, scores of walkers and runners turned out early Thursday to “Burn The Bird.” Race Montana hosts the annual road race to benefit the River’s Edge Trail. Race options included a 1.3 mile walk or a 5K or 10K starting at the Gibson Park bandshell.

People said it’s the perfect way to start the day on Thanksgiving before stuffing their faces later in the day.

Young racer Sean Lewin and Kingsley Kuka said it was their second year attending Burn the Bird with their family.

Sean said, “Well, so it’s kind of like a family tradition now, it’s really fun to do. I love Thanksgiving because it’s just a time to come together with your family and be thankful for all you have. It’s just a great time.”

Sean and Kinglsey also both celebrate their birthday over this Thanksgiving holiday. Sean’s birthday is on Thanksgiving and Kinglsey’s birthday is on Saturday, November 24.

Sean traveled all the way from Washington D.C. to attend Burn the Bird and celebrate the holiday with his family.

When asked what they’re going to do after Burn the Bird, they both said they’re going to eat a lot of turkey.
