(HAVRE) Some roads in Havre got a bit of a makeover on Thursday, thanks to Domino’s Pizza.
Domino’s launched its ‘Paving for Pizza’ program in June and asked people to nominate their towns for a chance to win a grant. That grant money would be used to repair potholes.
The overwhelming amount of nominations resulted in Havre being named one of 11 cities selected in the country for the grant so far.
The City of Havre filled potholes on 12th Avenue between 1st and 4th Street.
In a press release, Havre franchise owner TR Christianson said, “Cracks, bumps and potholes can easily ruin a good carryout pizza, and nobody wants that. We’re thrilled that Havre was selected as a grant recipient to help smooth the ride home for our carryout customers.”
Havre City Public Works Director Dave Peterson told the Havre Herald that although $5,000 may not seem like a lot of money, given the derelict condition of most of Havre’s streets, that money can go a long way. “Five thousand doesn’t seem like a whole lot, but I can get a whole lot of potholes filled,” Peterson said.
Domino’s money pays only for materials – hot mix bought from Havre Sand & Gravel Inc., according to Peterson. The workers and equipment doing the work are already paid by and owned by the city.
A total of 137,000 people nominated 15,275 ZIP codes in 50 states.
