Fire lines holding for fire north of Poplar

The Poplar Volunteer Fire Department reported early Sunday morning that fire lines were holding for the fire burning north of Poplar.

According to PVFD, crews were still monitoring several interior fires around 4:18 a.m.

On Saturday evening, cooler weather helped slow the fire to a crawl and allowed firefighters to gain some control. 

The fire started on Friday evening due to a swather and was burning about 17 miles north of Poplar. 

At last report, the fire was roughly 15 miles long and three miles wide and one residence had to be evacuated.

Several agencies responded to the fire including Poplar, Brockton, Culbertson, Bainville, Froid, Medicine Lake, Scobey, Glasgow, BIA, and the Roosevelt County Roads Department.

(September 1, 2018) A wildland fire burning north of Poplar has caused one residence to evacuate and has several agencies responding.

According to the Poplar Volunteer Fire Department, the fire is not contained and is roughly 15 miles long and three miles wide.

The fire is burning about 17-18 miles north of Poplar and started on Friday evening by a swather.

It traveled to Highway 251 (known locally as the RY) and jumped Roosevelt County road 2035 on Saturday evening moving east.

Fire officials have asked that homeowners keep vigilant for changing conditions and stand by for possible evacuations.

No structures have burned at this time. 

Derek Brown with Poplar Fire said Roosevelt County has laid fire lines around farms as the fire travels through. 

He added that no one has been severely injured. 

Responding agencies include Poplar, Brockton, Culbertson, Bainville, Froid, Medicine Lake, Scobey, BIA, and the Roosevelt County Roads Department.
