President Donald Trump signed the National Defense Authorization Act on Monday afternoon and Senator Steve Daines stopped in Great Falls to talk with officials about how the Act will affect the military.
Daines said more money will be budgeted to the military in the two-year defense bill.
The bill includes an increase in funding for the design phase of the ground-based strategic deterrent, which will replace the Minuteman III.
There is also funding to help with the replacement of the UH-1N Huey helicopter.
Daines said he expressed the importance of Malmstrom Air Force Base when President Trump visited Great Falls.
"I just briefly described for him the 147 ICBM’s and gave him a high level overview of what they do here , our missileers. He stopped me and he said, ‘Steve, make sure they keep this place strong. Make sure we keep this mission strong,’” Daines said.
The Act also has a mandate that states the c-130’s must upgrade to have firefighting capabilities, that includes the Montana Air National Guard.
