A man was arrested and charged with felony assault with a weapon in Shelby on Friday night after allegedly walking around Main Street with a rifle.
The Toole County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 9:19 p.m. about a male with a rifle in downtown Shelby.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the caller stated they were concerned about public safety due to the male’s actions with the firearm.
Deputies responded and after an initial investigation, more deputies were called to the scene and a perimeter was formed.
Shelby’s Main Street was blocked off and businesses that were still open were evacuated as a precaution.
The Sheriff’s Office was eventually able to make contact with the male and he was taken into custody without incident.
He has been booked in the Toole County Detention Center. His name has not yet been released.
The shutdown of Main Street was lifted shortly before midnight.
