Shane Courtney, a Great Falls resident, was sentenced in federal court on Friday to 66 months (5.5 years) in prison for possession of child pornography.
Courtney, 50, pleaded guilty in January to one count of possession of child pornography and admitted to possessing child pornography from June 2005 through February 28, 2017.
Federal agents discovered his child pornography collection after searching his residence in Anaconda in February of 2017.
Agents seized his computers and storage devices, which were later examined by the Intermountain West Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory in Billings.
A Certified Forensic Examiner determined that Courtney possessed numerous files depicting child pornography including images of prepubescent children.
In addition to the prison term, Courtney was ordered to pay $100 special assessment and 15 years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations.
