The rain canceled a lot of events planned for this weekend, but it didn’t rain out the 58th annual Belt PRCA Rodeo.
As people were setting up for the competition on Saturday, rain steadily came down. It quit about two hours before the rodeo started, however.
Some rodeo judges said trying to compete in a muddy arena makes it much more difficult and dangerous for the animals and riders.
However, the president of the Little Belt Rodeo Association said it takes a lot to get a cowboy to hang up their hat.
“We still compete, about the only time that you wouldn’t is if we had some real bad lightning or something going on. Rain, snow, sleet, rodeo competitors still come out here and go,” said Clancy Sivertsen.
The rodeo takes place again tomorrow starting at 2 p.m. after a parade downtown Belt that starts at 11 a.m.
