(UPDATE, 8:39 p.m.) According to the Montana Highway Patrol, a Ford Explorer failed to yield the right-of-way and entered US Highway 89 and was hit by by a sedan. Another SUV was also involved in the crash.
There were three drivers and two children involved. All five were taken from the scene by ambulance as a precaution; it’s not yet known if any of them sustained serious injuries.
The MHP says that all five were wearing seatbelts; there is no indication at this point that any of the drivers were under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash, and the scene has now been cleared.
(UPDATE, 7:53 pm) The crash appears to involve at least two and possibly three vehicles.
Civilian traffic through the area is currently blocked.
Two ambulances are at the scene.
(1st Report, 7:34 p.m.) Emergency crews are at the scene of a vehicle crash near Belt.
According to the MHP, at least one person has been injured.
The crash happened near the intersection of US Highway 89 and Belt Creek Road, near the turn-off to Belt.
The crash was reported to the Montana Highway Patrol at 7:07 p.m.
Several emergency personnel left the scene of a house fire south of Sand Coulee to respond to the crash.
