The recent bout of wet and cool weather significantly helped out with Montana’s drought and soil moisture conditions.

According to the latest USDA Crop Progress Report, precipitation was reported at 88 weather stations.

The highest recorded precipitation for last week was in Melstone with 3.32 inches of moisture.

Topsoil moisture conditions for the state were 62 percent adequate to surplus, above last year’s 54 percent.

Subsoil moisture conditions were 48 percent adequate to surplus which is above last year’s 32 percent.

Reporters noted that the cool weather and precipitation continue to slow harvest, with some areas reporting very little harvest occurring in the last month.
