When it comes to proposing in 2019, getting down on a knee at a nice restaurant doesn’t quite cut it. The era of social media has given us countless examples of people popping the question — whether it be for marriage or just a date to the prom — in outrageous ways that are so elaborate they can’t help but go viral.

Continuing the trend, a man in Houston recently combined technology and his favorite fitness habit for a clever proposal that that must’ve taken some serious planning.

Jon Blaze and Thao Nguyen have been together since 2016, and one of the things that keeps their relationship strong is their mutual love of cycling. Blaze told Houston’s KTRK-TV that the couple rides together at least twice a week and are the leaders of several regular social rides that happen in their hometown. They even document their rides together on Instagram as the Cycling Couple:

Blaze told the TV station that he’d been planning to propose for a while, and he decided to finally do it in March. His ingenious proposal would involve a 15-mile bike ride on a beautiful day, some serious route planning and a ton of turns.

After he and Nguyen finished their ride on March 20, which took about 90 minutes, Blaze showed his girlfriend a GPS map of the route they’d taken and asked the big question.

So I went on a bike ride with my GF and showed her a nice surprise at the end of our ride. She said YES! from r/bicycling

The route Blaze had planned for them spelled out “Marry Me” on the map, and thankfully, Nguyen said, “Yes!”

As you can see in the photo of the route above that Blaze posted to Reddit, it involved a bunch of inconvenient turns, which Nguyen later admitted she wasn’t thrilled about during the ride.

“I went from being so annoyed by all the crazy turns we did to being completely shocked and with the biggest smile on my face,” she told KTRK.

Blaze’s post about the clever proposal went viral on Reddit’s page dedicated by bicycling, racking up more than 7,000 upvotes in just three days. The couple has since posed for adorable engagement photos on their bikes, with Blaze commenting that Nguyen will “ride with me for life.”

Best of luck to the happy couple on their long ride ahead!
