Walt Disney World reservation center cast members are used to booking vacations for people who call them. However, one alert employee is credited for helping to book a man in jail over an alleged domestic violence incident instead.
According to the Northern York County Regional Police Department in Pennsylvania, on Jan. 9, a local woman called the phone number for Disney World reservations. However, the Disney employee on the other end of the line quickly realized this wasn’t an ordinary call to book a trip to Disney World. In fact, the call to book a trip was a ruse for the caller to get away from her boyfriend.
WESH 2 reported that the Disney World reservations cast member told police she knew something was wrong because she heard a woman yelling “get off me” and “get away from me” while they were on the phone.
Once the employee realized something wasn’t right, she did some quick-thinking to get a better read on the situation. She asked some simple yes-or-no questions.
“The Disney World employee at one point asked if (the woman) was actually calling to book a stay and she stated ‘no.’ She then asked (the woman) if she needed law enforcement to her home and she stated ‘yes,”‘ according to the criminal complaint, the York Dispatch reported.
From there, the Disney employee managed to get the woman’s address and called 911 to alert the proper authorities. Police arrived at the home of the woman at around 11:15 p.m. that night.
The arrest report said the woman told police she and her boyfriend had been having an argument about him getting a “real job” instead of selling fire extinguishers, according to Orlando’s WESH 2.
The York Dispatch reported that the woman also told police the man choked her and threatened her.
Police arrested 38-year-old Wayne Shiflett and charged him with strangulation, terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another and simple assault. He is currently awaiting a Feb. 1 preliminary hearing on the charges against him in York Country Prison.
Thank goodness that Disney employee was so good at thinking on her feet!
