Community Connection: Bark for Art – Festival of Trees

Community Connection: Bark for Art - Festival of Trees

(October 23, 2018) A group of Great Falls artists are turning some cottonwood trees into pieces of art.

The Bark for Art Festival of Trees hosted by the Four West Art League will take place during November’s First Friday Art Walk on November 2.

The wood comes from the trees removed from Great Falls High School’s campus last summer.

Alma Winberry said she got the idea for the competition when she saw a demonstration at the Good Wood Guys.

They had a sign next to the wood that read born, raised, milled, and made in Great Falls.

Winberry said the first step to enter the competition is to sign up. Signs will be posted on the Four West Art League door at the Columbus Center.

You can then either buy a tree slab from the Good Wood Guys or find your own.

Lastly, you must decorate the slab and drop it off at the Four West Art League on the 4th floor of the Columbus Center on November 1.

The art will be on display on November 2 and Winberry said they will give out awards.
