Kansas City, MO (KSHB) — Kansas City, Missouri, Police Sgt. Tammy Hinck got a strange call Sunday.
Patty Roth’s air conditioner was out.
“It was stifling,” Roth, 70, said. “We were wet. It was horrible.”
Hinck jumped into action, buying a window air-conditioning unit with her own money and getting another KCPD sergeant to install it.
“Everything fell together,” Hinck said. “Everybody was so eager to help and they jumped on it.”
The officers didn’t stop there.
R-Mech Heating and Cooling, which is owned by a retired KCPD officer, also visited Roth’s house.
Sales manager Ray Wyatt spent three hours repairing Roth’s central air conditioner and installing a new thermostat, all free of charge.
“It’s a great feeling,” Wyatt said. “You know, a sense of accomplishment you’re able to help somebody.”
All of this happened in a matter of hours, helping Roth and her pets escape the sweltering heat.
Hinck said they were all just happy to help.
“I’ve never seen anybody move so fast before,” Roth said. “They were fabulous, makes me feel very good and happy to have people to help me.”
