How many times have you been enjoying a nice, cool ice cream cone on a sweltering summer day and your dog starts giving you “the look?” You know what we’re talking about: the big, adorable eyes pleading for you to share that marvelous treat you have in your hand? And that wagging tail, reminding you that he’s a good, good boy, who really does deserve a treat (or some extra kibble)?
Well, thanks to Aldi, man’s best friend can enjoy a special scoop of ice cream made just for dogs — and you won’t have to worry about it making him sick!
Starting June 26, you can pick up Heart to Tail brand’s Frozen Dog Treats for your favorite four-legged, furry friend. Think of them as a Dixie Cup for doggies.
Each package has four individual cups included containing two of each flavor. First, there is the “original” flavor. What is the “original” flavor? Honestly, we’re not sure. But we doubt the dogs getting this snack will care too much.
The other flavor is “cheese & bac’n,” a surefire winning combination for the pooch in your life. (Cheese and bacon are probably less of a palatable ice cream treat for us humans!)
Aldi’s new Frozen Dog Treats have no artificial preservatives and are gluten-free, according to the product packaging. As part of Aldi’s pet-friendly Heart to Tail brand, customers can rest assure it is safe for their pets to eat, unlike regular ice cream.
The package of four treats retails for $3, which makes it highly affordable.
Is Ice Cream Safe For Dogs?
While it is not uncommon for dog owners to buy their pets a small cone to enjoy, the American Kennel Club advises doing so on a limited basis.
Despite how excited your pooch may be to enjoy an icy treat, traditional ice cream can be risky for dogs because most of them don’t tolerate dairy products well once they are weaned as a puppy. Dairy consumption can lead to stomach upset, diarrhea or vomiting in dogs.
Also, the high sugar content in ice cream can lead to weight gain. Giving your dog sugar-free ice cream can actually be worse, because these blends can contain the xylitol sweetener, which is toxic to dogs. (Xylitol is also found in pudding, breath mints, chewing gum, and some brands of peanut butter.)
So, finding dog-safe alternatives like Aldi’s Frozen Dog Treats are advisable if you want to give your pup a creamy reward. And when faced with puppy dog eyes like this, you certainly will!
You’ll have to get to Aldi soon after the product release on June 26. Since the Heart to Tail Frozen Dog Treats is an Aldi Find, they will only be offered for a limited time in stores.
So, stock up early and keep your pooch happy throughout the summer!
