Mike McGee Obituary

William Michael “Mike” McGee passed away surrounded by friends and family at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, Montana on 31 August 2018 after a long battle with a chronic illness.

Mike was born November 13, 1941 in Whitefish, Montana to Jeanette Hewitt and William “Mick” McGee.

When Mike attended school in Whitefish, Montana as a Bulldog and went on to finish his education at the Marine Corps Academy in San Diego, California.

Mike continued on with the Marines as a drill instructor until leaving the Marines and joining the Air Force to become a Medic, joking that he simply liked the cut of the uniforms better.

Mike was a man of many talents and did a little of everything during his 77 years on this earth.

He was a Sheriff’s deputy, an optician, worked for a paper mill, a manager for a video store, managed the first target store ever built in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, but his favorite job was being a lab and X-Ray technician for the Department of Corrections at the Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge.

He moved to Minnesota, where he met and married his first wife Toni, together they had three children, Wendy, David and Shannon.

That marriage ended in divorce, but Mike always maintained he loved Toni and they were just better as friends and he loved his children dearly and later David came to live with him and moved to Montana with him. Mike married his second wife Kathy in 1983, and they had one child, Dawn.

Mike and Kathy divorced in 1996 and also maintained an amicable relationship until her death in 2017. Mike was common law married to his third wife Rita who passed away in 2007, and he never recovered fully from her loss or the loss of his son David in 2013.

He moved to Great Falls from Opportunity, Montana in 2011 and made many friends in the Portage apartments.
