Obituary: Janet Chambers Benson

Janet Chambers Benson, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 with her family by her side.

Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 15 at 1:00 p.m. at the CM Russell Museum. 

Janet was born on April 14, 1943 to David and Alice Chambers. Janet spent her early years on a family ranch located southwest of Raynesford, MT.

The family then moved to Great Falls, where she attended school at Ursuline Academy and graduated from Great Falls High in 1962.

She later studied at the University of Montana for art. Janet had two wonderful sons, Thomas and Peter. 

Janet opened her first Junk store in the 1980’s hoping to sell antiques one day.

Eventually, Janet did open her antique store on Central Ave in Great Falls naming it Janet’s General store. She was in business for over 20 years before retiring in 2005. 

Having her antique store opened, she met the love of her life Joe Benson. Married in 1996, together they enjoyed road trips, antique shopping and fishing. Her husband Joe, passing in 2003.

In Janet’s retirement, she spent most of her time painting, jewelry design and spending time with her granddaughter.

Janet was a caring person, who helped anyone in need. Her laugh was contagious, and she always had a smile.

Janet made everything fun for her family and friends. Her love was for her family, sons and granddaughters.
