GREAT FALLS — Great Falls Fire Rescue responded to the scene of a multi-alarm structure fire in downtown Great Falls on Saturday.
The fire, at the Greystone Inn hotel at the corner of Central Avenue and 7th Street, was first reported at about 8:45 a.m. on Saturday.
As of 1:00 p.m., the fire was under control.
Battalion Chief David Van Son told MTN that the fire started on the first floor of the hotel, and a total of five fire engine companies responded because of the size of the fire.
We were able to confirm that the building was unoccupied and there were no injuries.
Great Falls Fire Rescue is still investigating the cause of the fire and is working with the owners of the Greystone in their investigation.
We are still working to find out how much damage was caused to the Greystone, and if there was any damage to surrounding buildings.
Last month, the Great Falls Development Authority anounced that the Greystone Inn was preparing for major renovations and a name change, and that by the end of the year, it will be re-branded as The Gibson, described by Ty Rollins of Starry Night Hospitality as a "boutique hotel."
Ballantyne Design Associates posted on its Facebook page: "Not what we wanted to wake up to today. Good news is this happened prior to work starting, the property is insured and the Owner is committed to seeing the project through. Just another chapter in the storied history of this property. Looking forward!"
