GREAT FALLS — Cascade County Search & Rescue and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks found the body of Brendan Rollins in the bottom of a ravine in the Sluice Boxes on Sunday.
Rollins, a 20-year-old Great Falls man, went hiking in Sluice Boxes State Park with a friend on Friday night. They were separated at nightfall when his friend fell into a ravine. His friend, Logan Haakenson, was found alive and in good condition by a hunter the following morning. A nearly two-day search effort was conducted by six law enforcement agencies to find Rollins.
Rollins' body was found more than four miles into the park, according to a news release from Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter. The Cascade County Sheriff's Office will attempt to hoist the body out of the ravine on Monday, with assistance from Malmstrom Air Force Base.
Rollins' family has been notified.
There is no word yet on the cause of death. Slaughter said the cause and manner of death could take days or weeks to determine, depending on autopsy results.
The Cascade County Sheriff's office is asking the public to stay out of the area on Monday, due to the danger associated with the recovery of the body.
We will update you if we learn more.
