Great Falls will soon be home to a new restaurant – the Black Bear Diner.

The Black Bear Diner website states that Great Falls is one of several locations they plan to open soon.

We have contacted the Black Bear Diner public relations office, but have not yet received confirmation of where in Great Falls they plan to open.

We have received several unconfirmed reports that they plan to open in the spot that formerly was the On The Border restaurant in the Great Falls Marketplace on the southwest side of town; it was originally built as a Tony Roma’s restaurant.

There is no word yet on when Black Bear Diner will open; we will keep you updated.

Black Bear Diner serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and says that the most popular menu item is chicken fried steak.

Black Bear Diner was founded in Mounta Shasta, California, in 1995, and now has 118 locations in 10 states, including California, Idaho, Washington, and Utah.

The company website says that every diner features custom artwork from the inside out, and notes that the bear carvings reflect the local flavor of each diner. You’ll find bears as skiers, fighter pilots, grape-stompers and more.

(UPDATE) Jolisa Johnson, the vice-president of marketing for Black Bear Diner, confirmed that they plan to open in Great Falls.

They have started work on remodeling the former Moonshine Grill (aka Shoot The Moon), which closed several years ago. They hope to be open by the end of the year.

Before it became Shoot The Moon, the building was the Macaroni Grill. Macaroni Grill opened in 2008, and the owners switched it to the Moonshine Grill/Shoot The Moon in late 2012.

Moonshine Grill and On The Border closed in late 2015.
