(GREAT FALLS) The 11th Annual Great Falls Community Food Bank Challenge ends on Friday.

94,000 lbs. of food has been collected since this challenge started 11 years ago.

First Interstate Bank, Prairie Mountain Bank, Stockman Bank and U.S. Bank are competing to see who can get the most donations.

The four banks have barrels set up for nonperishable food items and are also accepting monetary donations.

In years past, the banks raised a total of 94,000 lbs. of food.

Beth McKinney, Great Falls Food Bank Fund Development Coordinator, says the summer time is one of the slowest times of the year, and this is a great way to jump start into the school and holiday seasons.

“We always have a need in the community. The one thing I love about Great Falls is it really does band together and really puts its heart into others,” McKinney said.

She adds that aside from bragging rights, the community members who need the food the most are the big winners.

“One can can make a difference to a family,” McKinney said.

If you wish to donate to the food bank, their hours are Monday-Friday 7am-2pm. There is also a permanent barrel by the IGA Every day.

The winner of the food bank challenge will be announced on Monday.

Beth McKinney says canned fruit is in high demand this year and always goes so quick.
