HELENA – New details have been released about the two teenagers facing robbery and theft charges after being arrested in Great Falls on Monday.

Dakota Hartzel and Jonathon Roberts, both 18 years old, appeared in Lewis & Clark County Justice Court on Wednesday.

According to court documents, the victim was sitting in his vehicle at Barney Park in Helena at around 4 p.m. on Monday when he was approached by two people he recognized as Hartzel and Roberts.

The victim told investigators he knew the suspects from school.

He told authorities the two men got into his car, and Hartzel pulled out a gun and held it to the victim’s head.

The victim was ordered to hand over cash, his phone, and vaporizer.

During their investigation, police learned that Hartzel and Roberts were headed to Great Falls.

Police found them and arrested them Monday evening.

Hartzel’s bond was set at $50,000. Roberts’ bond was set at $40,000.

(1st Report, Monday, 8:39 p.m.) There is a large police presence along and near the Central Avenue bridge in Great Falls.

We have received several unconfirmed reports that at least one person has been taken into custody.

There is no word yet on the cause of the activity, but it does not appear to be due to a crash, nor do there appear to be any injuries.

Traffic is being directed by police; the only blocked area is turning right on to River Drive from Central Avenue West.
