BILLINGS – A fire that resulted in six people being taken to a hospital on Tuesday morning was set intentionally by a child who lived there.

Four adults and two children were taken to a hospital following the fire at 2120 Yellowstone Avenue at around 1 a.m. on Tuesday.  One of the children was then flown to Salt Lake City Children’s Hospital, and is listed in stable condition.

The fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damages to a basement utility room.

According to the Billings Police Department, following a joint investigation with the Billings Fire Department, it was determined that a 12-year-old boy started the fire.  The boy was not injured.

A press release from the BPD says the boy lived in the home, and was taken to youth services, where he remains in custody.

According to Lt. David Cardillo, the home did not belong to the parents of the boy, but was also not a group home.  He said he was unable to release any additional information on the living situation at this time.

Cardillo also said he was unable to release information about  what led them to determine the fire was set intentionally at this time.
