The Great Falls Police Department received some financial support on Tuesday to update vehicles and equipment, as the Great Falls Police Community Foundation presented the agency with a check for $61,684.50.

The foundation raises money to help subsidize equipment purchases and other items that aren’t normally in the police budget.

The money presented to the department will go towards buying new cameras in police vehicles, and upgraded rifles in patrol cars.

Foundation president Sandra Thares says their top priority is providing resources to keep officers safe.

“If there is ever trouble, the police are usually the first people I call.  So being part of this foundation is really a way for us to give back to those who are going to be out there for us,” said Thares.

In the past, the foundation has provided funding for additional Tasers, rifle plates for body armor, and the police drone, among other items.

The majority of money is raised through the foundation’s annual gala.

The next gala will be held in April 2019.
