Ryan Beam, a preschool teacher at Skyline in Great Falls, is this week’s One Class At A Time grant recipient.

He was nominated by his friend and colleague, Jona MacNamee.

He is giving his students the flexibility to tell a story a different way each time they pick up a book.

He will do this by using the $250 grant to buy more wordless picture books for his classroom.

Wordless picture books impact students in regards to language development, vocabulary building and also their communication skills.

Beam said, “Wordless picture books is an integral part of building oral language skills in our early childhood students and so I’m able to talk and read and practice the wordless picture books storytelling with my students and then they can do that on their own”

He also adds that with wordless picture books, students aren’t restricted by the words on the page and can let the pictures tell the story.
